County Trail, Richmond, Rhode Island

In the fields just outside Richmond, Rhode Island is a farmhouse that was built around 1890. It doesn't know it yet, but it speaks Swedish.

Because in Sweden, there's a farmhouse that looks like this...

...and both houses have pretty embellishments like this...

...and both houses have fireplaces that look like this:

So the Rhode Island farmhouse already has plenty of potential...

...to have a cozy fireside chair and a mantel top brimming with collections.

And where would you get the delightful tray of tea and cookies? Well, you could get them from the Rhode Island house's kitchen, which has a old-fashioned stove and a farmhouse beam (and... not much else of note) in the kitchen, or...

...you could combine the old-fashioned stove with a pretty painted island and beadboard ceiling...

...which I'm sure would make the cookies would taste even better. And if you'd like to take your tea in a solarium, the Rhode Island house has potential...

...but we could take a note from the Swedes and upgrade it to a porch all set for holiday dinners and ready for straw wreaths in the windows:

The Rhode Island farmhouse has 3 bedrooms, 1.5 baths in 2,682 square feet.

It also has really old stoves and a furnace in the basement:

It's on 6.55 acres of tillable farmland.

The town of  Richmond is only 40.7 square miles, but it has 123 miles of rivers or streams.  One of those rivers is the Usequepaug, or Usquepaugh, or Queen's River, (depending on the source) which is adjacent to the property.

Richmond is having a wreath contest to decorate Town Hall for the month of December. Who knows? A design inspired by the the house just might give you the win:

The Old House Dreams listing is here. Johanna Berglund's Instagram has plenty more Swedish farmhouse inspiration, and there's a nice article about her here.
