Hello! Waiting for us today is an 1850 Virginia home "ready for renovation," as the listing says.

Once I saw this entry I was eager to see its potential as a Christmas cottage.

A little color switch-a-roo, and now it's as crisp as a candy cane.

The entry includes this stately staircase:

Of course a staircase like this needs a little Christmas garland:

The kitchen, I'm afraid, is definitely ready for renovation:

But just look at the wow we could pack into the space:

{Better Homes and Gardens}

The house has two rooms with fireplaces across the hall from each other:

This room could be our dining room...

...beautifully ready to be set for Christmas dinner, while this room:

...becomes our cozy, period living room.

{John B. Murray}

Ordinarily the room would look like that above, but for Christmas, let's add in some of the wonderful antiques below:

Let's do the same in the basement, as well:

We'll wrap up our tour in this cozy upstairs bedroom:

Cozy and cute in our Christmas cottage.

Remember our recent tour of a reader's potential home for Yvonne's son and daughter-in-law?  Yvonne reports that they moved in right after Thanksgiving and are already at work making it theirs.
Here was the living room inspiration photo:

...and here is what they've done so far:

Pretty neat, huh?  The black door and tile look so sophisticated.
Here's to lots of happy holiday memories in their new home!

  1. That is a big project... But wow! It could be so amazing with the right touches. I love the "Christmas cottage" feel! So cute! xo Kristy

    1. Hi Kristy-- I think it was "The Holiday" movie that has me thinking about Christmas cottages. No holiday stress- just a perfectly decorated place to escape to with a cup of hot cocoa!

  2. Vicki,
    There are so many rooms in this piece that are my very definition of the word "cottage". That kitchen image with the 2 stacked baskets and the little plein air painting, oh my! I think I'm ready to curl up with a cup of cocoa and a good book in any of these spaces, well, except for the dining room...I'll move there when its time for lunch! :-)
    I hope your days are filled with Christmas cheer this month.

    1. Hi Karen- This was a fun one to do. Lunch in that dining room would be fantastic-- it would seem like an occasion no matter what!
      I'm finally wrapping some presents now, and appreciating the inspiration you featured!

  3. This could be your best design yet! Absolutely love it! Knowing that you had one of my favourite movies in mind just is the icing on the cake. :)

    1. Hi Kirstin- Yes, that movie cottage was the best, wasn't it? Wouldn't it be fun to be able to fix this house up (and shop for those antiques!) :)
