Spooky Hill

Happy Halloween!  Appropriately, let's wander to Spook Hill, Maryland, and a 1988 house on Pretty Boy Dam Road.  Actually, this house doesn't look very spooky, does it?
Where are the dark storm clouds rolling in when you need them?

Well, come on in to the foyer, where it's so so ready for decorating, it's scary.

That's certainly moving beyond builder basic, isn't it?  Let's bring some of that warm drama to the living room:

{Better Homes and Gardens}

You can't get much more cozy drama than from a burnt orange couch...

...unless it's from twilight blue dining chairs.  Love how this room could be dressed up or down so easily, too.

There's certainly no drama in this current kitchen:

But that could be remedied with gray stain over the oak cabinets, and gorgeous soapstone counters.

As for the family room...

...let's let Victoria Hagan pull in our colors with a lighter touch.

Upstairs, there's a builder-basic master bathroom:

The dark vanities and window treatment would warm up the space and add a little dramatic personality.

Same goes for this playing-it-safe master bedroom:

{James Andrew}

Now it's warm, cozy, and definitely dramatic.

If you'll pardon the bad Halloween puns, with a few decorating tricks, we've whipped up some treats for this house, and it wasn't scary at all.

Or was it?  Happy Halloween, friends!

  1. Vicki,
    Clever and fun...always. The foyer and living room wall colors are bold and beautiful for this spacious home. The kitchen is my favorite, I love the cabinets and soapstone. You did such a great job with your waterlogued picture for the end.
    I hope your Halloween is perfect balanced with enough boo and more than enough treats! :-)

    1. Hi Karen, I lucked out to find such an autumnal palette for this house. Hope you get a little treat --- maybe some See's candy-- this week!

  2. That was a fun post. I love how you used the blue to wake up those really bland rooms. The beautiful blue walls seem to smile and beckon you to come on in as you enter the foyer and those fabulous chairs in the dining room are just super cute. Oh and I can't forget the master bedroom. It's perfect. That house needed all the help it could get and as usual, your ideas were totally on point... :)

    1. Hi Kristy-- I had to google Halloween-ish city names until I found one with just the right house. I had to have a little theme, after all. :) Hope you had a fun Halloween with your little one!
